Hotel Steinmattli

My experience at the Steinmattli was very good. Situated in the heart of the village with Mountain View’s to die for. I had a large room on the third floor with a balcony looking out across the valley. The room was large clean and in good order. The bathroom was also well equipped and well maintained. Not the most comfortable bed in the world but I got used to it. The buffet breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The food served in the restaurant was also very good quality and well presented. There is a large bar lounge area on the ground floor. Sometimes it was quite difficult to get served at the bar as it was deserted by staff. Although beer prices are very reasonable, Spirit prices I found extortionate at 17 Swiss Francs for a Gin and Tonic and 18 francs for a large glass of Sauvignon Blanc. But Switzerland is an expensive destination. I should also mention the staff who very good, friendly and helpful.

The Steinmattli is very well situated for access to the slopes of Adelboden. There is a short walk, slightly uphill, of about 100m to the gondola which takes you down to the village and links with the gondola up to the ski area. My room was large, with a patio, had a bath (always great when skiing!) and plenty of storage. The meals are good, with great selection at breakfast, and 4 courses at dinner with 3 options of main course. The boot room has enough seating for a good number of people to put on boots at the same time - this is not the same everywhere! The staff are friendly, speak good English and are helpful in the event of any need or crisis. The spa area is very good, though no swimming pool, and a small irritation is that you have to pay CHF 10 per day that you use the spa. Overall, a very good stay in Adelboden.

Excellent service, great location in the village center, 100m from the ski lift, with beautiful views, nice decor with a combination of both traditional and modern elements, and excellent restaurant. Warmly recommended, and will myself definitely come back again next year.

We have just finished a lovely week's skiing holiday based at this hotel. The food is excellent. We were half board and the range of food on offer was impressive. Breakfast was also good with many options from fruit juice up to a cooked breakfast. Service was impeccable. The rooms are quiet and spacious. The beds are comfortable. The views from the windows or veranda are stunning. The downside is that there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room nor is there a mini fridge. The staff are friendly, efficient and speak English reasonably well despite their TripAdvisor entry showing just German as the available language. The ski hire is just up the road as is the main shopping street. The ski lift is about 100 meters away. If you are contemplating a ski holiday in the area it would make a great base.

Our group arrived at 3am after a 19 hour delay. I was given a room key that was allocated to me. There were no staff on. It was on the reception counter. The next morning I spoke with the receptionist Dominik, to inform him of the disappointment with my room 321 and the tiny single bed. He said there were no other availabilities until at least the 2nd March 2022. I did not find him to be very helpful and he told me there was nothing he could do. It was a small room with a tiny single bed (this was very uncomfortable and like a water bed), that was not as advertised in the brochure. The brochure photographs show a newly refurbished spacious airy room with a twin/double bed. The safe was on the floor and not useable. My personal belongings were left open. Laptop/Cash/Passport/COVID Certificates/Watch/Jewellery. When I was finally moved, it was an improvement in the fact that I had an adults bed, but it still did not replicate the bright airy spacious rooms as advertised. When the dinner staff came round in the evening, instead of writing down the orders, they tried to shout out the options and encourage us to put up our hands. This was a noisy affair and I could see it it annoyed the other guests (and me). The first nights dinner was good. Each evening it declined as the week went on. This Hotel was ok, but it is not up to a 4 Star Quality and the Service was below average. I won't be going back I hope you find this review to be helpful?

Friendly staff, excellent food, great service. The room was a good size and very comfortable,except for the beds, which were too soft for us. The location was ideal. The view was great. Shops and cable cars nearby in esdy walking distance.

Excellent hotel in every aspect. Food great, very clean and within close proximity of ski lifts. It was the staff who made our stay most enjoyable. Also hotel facilities everything you need for a great stay.
