Well, the website looks good, the bed was comfortable, the water hot and the porridge excellent. That’s the positives!! The negatives: The bed was too big for the small room, making it feel very cramped, There was only room for one bedside table. There was no bedside light and no switch above the bed to turn the light off, so it meant a trip to the switch by the bedroom door to put the lights out at night. The room was cluttered with too much brown furniture, which needed a good dust to clean it up. The space between the bottom of the bed and the dressing table was very tight for moving around, especially in the night. The paintwork was in need of renewing, the blind was torn and the hook for the curtain tie back was coming away from the wall. The room (no 22) was on the ground floor overlooking the rear courtyard. Again, the paintwork on the windows could do with renewing, and all of the outdoor seating areas could do with a good tidying up. Then there was the noise from the doors! I’ve never stayed in a hotel with no door handles on the outside of the door. As a result doors clashed every time someone left a room. Similarly the fire doors clattered every time they were used. I appreciate the fire doors are a legal necessity, but they don’t make so much noise in other hotels. The bathroom was another area in need of an overhaul. The hot water was hot, but sadly there was no cold water to be had from the cold water tap at all. I think this would constitute a serious health and safety issue. There must have been an issue with the hot tap before as the taps looked different too. The laminate cover on the toilet seat was peeling away. The floor looked in need of a good steam clean and the bath panel was cut very badly cut to fit around the pipework. The food was not as good as expected. Breakfast was only a typical cooked breakfast, or something with Hollandaise sauce (which was served cold on the first morning, so I didn’t try it again). Sadly, there was no option of a fish dish as you would expect at the coast. In the evening , my husband, who is a coeliac and must have gluten free food, asked if the haddock could be grilled rather than battered and was told no. Not what we expected from a restaurant with Two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence. As for the friendliness of the staff, forget it. No-one spoke to us much. Colin the chef ventured to talk to us in the car park one morning, but as for the legendary Malcolm Duck, in the 4 nights we stayed we never saw him, or if we did he never made himself known to us. All in all a very poor experience for £165 per night bed and breakfast!

Arrived, booked a twin made up as double. Only 1 towel. Two trips to reception within an hour. Not great. Many existing reviews say the same. No reaction to previous and ongoing room set up and preparation.

The place is rather rundown compared to the prices. Everything is just old and needs replacement, towels, carpets, chairs, kettle, etc. Dinner was good but the portions are tiny. There is really good food and big portions in the nearby hotel(Old Aberlady Inn) or you can buy excellent fish and chips on Main Street.

I am appalled at the service. This morning Sunday June 4th 2023 I popped in for a coffee. I stood at reception, about 3 foot away from the receptionist who was busy l (or pretending to be)!! looking at a computer screen of security areas of the hotel - one of which was myself. I was totally ignored so I said excuse me could I have a coffee. She still didn't turn around immediately. When she eventually did her manner was far from welcoming. She turned towards me and said the coffee machine had broken down!! All I can say is there must have been a lot of complaints from those coming down for breakfast!??!!! Obviously I didn't fit the criteria for standards demanded of the hotel. I will most certainly be telling people to give it a wide birth on rudeness alone!

Stopped for a spot of lunch in the sun. Got the soup of the day which was absolutely delicious. The soup was reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. Only improvements is that I could have done with a bit more bread, and the outdoor seating could be spruced up a bit.

My husband is a lifelong serious golfer, & this place & meeting Malcolm Duck was on his must-do list. He had an amazing day of golf at the Renaissance Club, & we had a great meal at the Inn's restaurant that evening. We were personally greeted by Mr Duck's wife upon arrival, & she took us straight to our rooms early in the day before officially checking in. The atmosphere & simple rooms are that of a sweet, local, family-owned B&B, & the spot clearly attracts avid golfers daily. The town is quiet, but bus service is reliable, clean, & frequent if you want to travel outside Aberlady without driving. Highly recommended.
