The Notary Hotel, Philadelphia, Autograph Collection

The Notary Hotel, Philadelphia, Autograph Collection

Philadelphia City Center Philadelphia|0.19km from downtown
We booked the Notary for a Presidents Day weekend trip to Philly. We primarily booked it for its perfect location in Center City, easily walkable to the Independence Hall area, though walking to the museum areas might be a stretch for some. The hotel is across the street from City Hall, and you can walk around and view some of the outdoor artwork that Philly is known for. The lobby is gorgeous. Check-in on the Bonvoy app was easy, and we used our phones as keys for the room. They are in the process of modernizing their elevators, so it would take some time to get down to the ground floor from our room, between waiting and then stopping on almost every floor on the way down. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The window looking out to the city was a little small, but totally understandable considering the building is on the register of historic places. The restaurant could use some work, primarily with staffing. We called down to ask how long a wait for a table would be, and were told no wait. However, when we got to the restaurant, we were told they were only taking diners with reservations, no walkups. Luckily, when we told them of the phone call, they did seat us after a 20-30 minute wait. Our waitress made it very clear that they were understaffed and she was overworked. The food was okay, drinks were better. Breakfast seemed to be staffed more appropriately, and again the food was okay. You're probably better off looking at the many restaurants around Center City (or uber to Dante's & Luigi's like we did on our second night). Valet also seemed understaffed, though they were up front about the expected wait once we called down for our car (20-30 mins). Overall, very nice hotel, could use some help with staffing restaurant. Would stay here again.

Horrible experience. Do not go here. In the two weeks I've been here not only have the water, electricity, elevators, and Wi-Fi all gone out, but I'm sitting here writing this review at 12:09 AM on a Tuesday morning (yes, just after midnight) while some sort of INSANELY loud diesel motor not 30ft from my window is doing god knows what. Looks like it's pumping water out of a fire hydrant. Lady at the front desk goes ”I'm not sure what you're talking about” after I show her a video. Other highlights include the fact that I had to reassemble my dishwasher (the arm was just sitting on the bottom, disconnected), the fact that the card readers are awful and I always miss my floor since the thing doesn't read my card in time for me to press the elevator button, the fact that I've been unable to get a mobile key working (in the hopes that I'll miss my floor less often), the mobile support team keeps telling me I'm attaching my screenshots wrong (which I am NOT), it's just completely ridiculous. Also there are no safes in the rooms. The staff are generally nice but clearly utterly incompetent at solving the most basic technical issues of water, electricity, elevators, and Wi-Fi, and the noise after midnight is awful. I generally consider myself a patient and forgiving person but wow, they are REALLY starting to test my limits here. Cannot recommend against staying here strongly enough.

Philadelphia Marriott Old City

Philadelphia City Center Philadelphia|0.46km from Society Hill
Old City Philadelphia is a good area for tourists but this Marriott may not be the best choice for lodging in the area. It is convenient to some of the historic sites like Independence Hall and it's also convenient for Headhouse Square (restaurants on South Street) and the Ritz movie theatre. But the hotel is close to I95 so you'll hear traffic unless you ask for the quiet side of the hotel. Our room had inadequate air conditioning - it was a blessing when the AC ran because it quieted the outside noise. But it ran infrequently. I was here for a conference and the conference rooms are convenient and adequate. But don't plan to dine at the hotel. At check in we were gifted with a voucher for the buffet breakfast which normally costs $17.95. Wow! First, the buffet consists of oatmeal, sausage, eggs and fruit. There are packages of bagels and bread, and some cookies. There were no extras (they were all out) for oatmeal toppings. It's all self service and I had to clean a table before sitting - I don't mind, but the attitude of the attendant I did mind. She was gruff. At one point someone dropped fruit salad on the floor and picked up the pieces of fruit but the liquid was still obvious - the attendant just threw up her hands when someone pointed to the spill - hoping to avoid a fall. The attendant just didn't care. I asked her for a bowl and she just plopped a stack next to me - no comments. Very rude. Anyone who pays $17.95 for this ”buffet” will be sorely disappointed. You can walk over to Headhouse Square, 10 minutes away, and get a great breakfast for less money at the South Street Diner. Overnight parking is expensive at the hotel. Housekeeping was sketchy at first - all I got was a refresh of the towels until I found the housekeeping manager and asked that the room be cleaned.

Friendly staff, clean room... contemporary design in the room, but the bathroom felt a little dated to me. Nicely decorated, but definitely saw clues of where the building and room was on the older side... for example, we had 4 ppl staying in the room, but there was no place to hang used bath towels in the bathroom... so we hung towels in the closet on hangers. Weird right? The hotel was generally nice, but a few quirks kinda got under my skin. First, we did self parking and while there is a garage in the building (convenient) the signage for where to park is vague at best. Eventually we found an employee who told us we could park on the first floor (closest to street) - but in spots marked as ”reserved”... of course this happened after we drove all the way to the bottom of the garage, looking for ”Westin guests park here” signs. Secondly, we were there on a long weekend and wanted to do some sightseeing. It was a healthy 15-20 min walk to the Reading Terminal Market (a comfortable walk around/through City Hall), and we had to drive to Chinatown. On this particular trip to Philly we didn't visit Independence Hall, but that isn't close either. Nice place, but there are definitely more convenient hotels for tourists.

The hotel is in the urban area, so traveling is very convenient. You can park in the parking lot at the back door of the hotel. The center of Philadelphia is not big, so it is convenient for exploring the city scenery.

Hampton Inn Philadelphia-Int'l. Airport

Huanpeng Hotel is basically the more reliable American Express hotel. Breakfast is the most convenient place. It is more suitable for the habits of Chinese people. The hotel is located near the airport. It is more convenient and operates in accordance with the standard mode. Parking is also attractive. point
