Managed by Mandai Wildlife Reserves, Singapore Zoo is one of the most visited attractions in the country, with more than 1.7 million visitors every year. The zoo is located in the Mandai area, just a short drive from the city centre. It is home to over 2,800 animals, including mammals, reptiles, birds, and more. The zoo prides itself on its conservation efforts and its commitment to animal welfare, making it a great place to visit for animal lovers.
Singapore Zoo is home to more than 300 species of animal
One of the most striking features of Singapore Zoo is its open concept. Unlike traditional zoos that keep animals in small, confined spaces, Singapore Zoo's enclosures are designed to replicate the animals' natural habitats. This approach allows visitors to observe the animals up close and in a more natural setting, while also providing the animals with more space and freedom to move around.
Another notable feature of Singapore Zoo is its focus on education and conservation. The zoo offers a variety of educational programs, guided tours, and exhibits that teach visitors about the animals and their habitats. In addition, Singapore Zoo participates in conservation programs and breeding programs to help protect endangered species and preserve biodiversity.
Mandai Wildlife Reserve also manages 2 other park attractions. Night Safari, which is the world's first nocturnal wildlife park. Visitors can explore the park at night and see animals that are active during the night, such as tigers, elephants, and lions. This innovative approach to zoo design and management has won numerous awards and recognition from the global community. The River Wonders (used to known as River Safari) is a river-themed wildlife park located adjacent to the Singapore Zoo, showcasing various aquatic and terrestrial animals from freshwater habitats around the world, such as pandas, manatees, and Amazonian fish.
Singapore Zoo's commitment to animal welfare is also exemplary. The zoo provides its animals with natural habitats, a balanced and nutritious diet, and veterinary care. Singapore Zoo also emphasizes the importance of enrichment activities for its animals, which includes providing them with toys, puzzles, and other objects that simulate their natural behaviors.
