Lovely lovely place with lovelier staff. Easy to find from metro, three blocks away. Good sized room, wonderful breakfast ( nothing I could think of missing. They even are preparing us a box breakfast as we leave too early. There is a lovely grocery store two minutes walk. We used wrong plug in and blew circuit breaker first night and, no problem, just changed our room and even offered to help carry our stuff. One night got cooked chicken and salad at store across street. When I asked if they had paper plates, oh no, they gave us glass plates and real silverware and offered to pick it up when we finished. Great little boutique hotel. If you want the hustle and bustle of Lisbon avoid staying here. However if you want a nice, clean, comfortable hotel, close enough to everything then you could do worse than stay here. Great adjacent links by bus or tram into city, Belem, Sintra, and just a 15 walk to timeout and the metro network. Rooms are well appointed, comfortable, and it is peaceful. We had a road facing room, I’m a light sleeper, no noise, perfect. We had breakfast included and it was good, the usual mix of hot and cold options, with added breakfast cava as is the way. Nice library honesty bar/terrace on 3rd floor, not stupid prices either. Ground floor has complimentary pastries (until all gone) and tea/coffee. Breakfast outdoor courtyard too. Helpful staff, added bonus of free entry to museums. Not the vibrant hub or Lisbon, lots of good eating options close by, particularly Raízes.FromS$331

The BessaHotel is wonderful. Amazingly stylish and modern. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Huge bed! We were at the front with a view of Avenida da Liberdade or rather the trees outside! We also had a French door and a Juliet balcony. The bathroom was lovely - gorgeous shower. The staff are friendly and helpful. Beware, the swimming pool (lovely for a dip after a hard day's sightseeing) is very small as are the sauna and steam room. Even so, it's a nice touch. We didn't eat at the hotel. We had breakfast outside at a lovely cafe in the shade of the trees (O Melhor Bolo de Chocolate do Mundo). It was just a short walk away. This hotel is ideally placed for walking into the City but it is also near a Metro station and not far from buses and trams. Lisbon is hilly! We used public transport to get around. We used a travel card available from the Metro Station at the Airport. Each journey just cost one Euro 35. We ate dinner at Leonetta, Sol Dourado and Casa Nostra. Barrio Alto district is a good place for an evening out.FromS$471

The hotel location is perfect for airplane spotters. The planes fly really low, as it no far from the airport. if you get lucky you can get a room facing the routes of the planes. The subway station is just a few meters away from it, as wall as the bus station for 376 (I think). There is a drugstore and a grocery store right next to it. The lobby is huge with lots of benches. The elevators were quick - there are three of them, I did not spend almost any time waiting for them. It is quiet, amazingly quiet, there are carpets in the hallways, as well as carpet under the bed. I could not hear either the neighbours or the elevator that was a meter away from my hotel room door. The bed was comfortable, a nice number of lights, a TV, a fridge, a safe (which I did not know how to use... it was a bit confusing). There was a big bench for your suitcase as well as a wardrobe. The bathroom was big enough, although the door was a bit heavy to drag back and forth. There were toiletries as well. The space around the sink was huge, which was nice. The breakfast was good, there were roasted potatoes and mushrooms, some fruits as well, which works if you are a vegan. The long coffee was amazing, and it was worth the queuing. The staff were helpful and friendly, I think the reception is open for 24 hours. They even worked on New Year´s eve, as well as the staff in the restaurant, it was amazing. The cleaning staff also does a good job, my room was perfect, and I did not have to ask have it cleaned. Room for improvement: Only 2 coffee machines in the breakfast area, and not all options work, so you may stand for half an hour in order for you to get your coffee, if you happen to come down at 7 am. The swirly-whirly door at the entrance is quite dangerous, you should paste something on the glass, or have it rotate in a more customer-friendly way. The toilet paper is too thin, and for those of us who happen to have runny nose during our stay, its just too little. The sink duct is bottomless, stuff disappears in there so beware. The buttons in the elevator do require a lot of pressure.FromS$124
