Flight from Singapore to Miri

Miri is a coastal city located near the border of Brunei on the island of Borneo. It was founded in 1910 when the first oil well was drilled by the Royal Dutch Shell. The founding of an oil field led to the rapid development of the Miri Town. It is actually in the northeastern Sarawak, Malaysia and became the administrative center of the northern region of Sarawak. The formation of Petronas in 1974 led to a co-operation between Shell and Petronas on oil exploration in the Miri region. Miri became the 10th city in Malaysia to be granted as the official city status in the year 2005. Basically, it is the birthplace of the Malaysian Petroleum Industry!

Tip: Once a year, i.e., April to September is the ideal time to visit Miri as there is minimum rainfall and is an ideal time for outdoor activities.

Getting to Miri

The city is serviced by Miri Airport (MYY), an airport which is located 9.5 km southeast of Miri. It is the sixth busiest airport in Malaysia.
