We booked a one-night stay here on our way from Taman Negara to the Perhentian isles. Based on the photos and reviews we expected a decent place, somewhat touristy, not too luxurious, but good value for money. At first glance the accomodation looked great. Well maintained grounds, a nice cottage, bathroom with yacuzi, and beautiful beach. All was not what it seemed however. Although everything looked great, almost nothing worked. The yacuzi did not function, the A/C only worked with a light on, during showering the whole bathroom got soaked, the shower was completely blocked causing the water to fall out of the sides of the showerhead, and water would leak through the ceiling when using the hot tap. When we ordered some fishbread snacks to go with our welcome drink, I got severe food poisoning which still endures at the time of writing. The hotel, and actually the whole region, does not appear tot be familair with Western tourists. Hygiene is severely lacking, not only in the hotel but alsof in EVERY restaurant we drove to for dinner (albeit all rated 3-5 stars on TripAdvisor). We were the only Western tourists in the hotel and in the streets we were stared at and hailed, even though we were both very modestly dressed. Breakfast only offered pre-packed cake as 'Western' food option. We really are not the luxury arrogant tourists that you see in the street sometimes, but this place and region made us feel unsafe and literally sick for the first time since arriving in Malaysia. Our advise: dont go this way. If you must, stay at the local Tanjong-Jara resort. Good features: -friendly reception-staff -beautiful grounds and cottage -comfortable beds Negative features: -everything else
