I underestimated this hotel thinking that it's ”just another budget hotel” but after staying here for 5 nights I was impressed by the friendly staff and the in-room facilities. In this price range I didn't expect iron and ironing board to be included in the room as well, on top of the usual safe box, hairdryer, minibar, tv (of course), and wifi (very strong signal even from outside of the hotel compound). The location may look a bit dodgy, but the surrounding area is actually safe even if you're wandering around on foot. A supermarket, mini mart, and a few restaurants are within walking distance. During my stay I had no issues with the aircond/shower/parking like some of the previous reviews mentioned. I wouldn't mind staying here again.

Fully recommended! If you came for a business appointment and a short stay in Butterworth, Penang, this is a good place to stay. The hotel was really clean and comfy. Food places were easy to find around the area too. There are also parking spots provided.

This hotel have a spacious and comfortable lobby with some cushion sittings and friendly check in staff.. I've a little but comfortable room with a single bed, and a clean bathroom with two panels sliding glass doors ran along the length of the room wall with the shower at one end, the wash basin in the center n the toilet at the other end.. I would say it's a very nice bathroom for the price of the room. Plenty of halal n non halal foods stalls n shops just a short walking distance away, and it only takes a 10 minute walk to the KTM train station, the reason I stayed here as i need to catch the 6.20am morning train

- I'm the kind that checks either the room is clean or not starting from the toilet. I can say that the toilet is dirty, a little slimy, the floor is like not washed. The fan in the toilet seems to not function well to dry the floor once wet. a lot of small cockroaches - Aircond is a little problem. His fan is cool to go down, have to manually adjust for him up - towel kotor. duduk for 3 nights tak offer utk tukar & kemas bilik - There are many cockroaches in the room so if there is food, you have to keep it in the luggage & zip luggage - channel TV Take Banyak. TV3 Take - soundproof room very poor. can hear the next room shower, brush your teeth - Iron clothes is going downstairs, on a table that maybe the staff used to eat. It's not very convenient

For the 1st time from my many staycation here the room key not working, sound of walkie talkie from cleaner who’s walking along the hall with their cleaning equipment was too loud interrupted my sleep early in the morning other from this the worker who using gondola/sky tools for class cleaning/painting trying to open my room r window from outside several time while making so much noise from outside although management had place a note on each of lifts but still it un proper act since hotel have guest inside the building!

Their 'room' pictures are a bit deceptive because the room has no windows but the pictures show a common area with a window. They should specify that the room is windowless. Almost non existent wifi. One of the oldest hotel along Gurney Drive but still among the best and cheapest in that area. Clean and friendly staff. Fair breakfast buffet spread. Free canned drinks and apples daily. Simply amazing hotel. We chose the seaview deluxe room and the view facing the bay was amazing. The new Gurney bay park is just in front of the hotel where you can jog and catch sunrise at the promenade. Evergreen Laurel is surely my favorite hotel in Georgetown and will come back here soon.

My elderly parents stayed at The Gurney during their medical checkup in Penang and accidentally left behind some documents. We emailed the hotel and left a message through booking.com to no avail. Then through a phone call, we got connected to Danesh at the Concierge Department, who then went the extra mile to coordinate among various departments within the hotel, and mailed the document through express courier service. His attentive service is highly appreciated.

The hotel is good and clean, but the service of parking security is terrible, before we check in, one of the security was playing his phone and videocalling with his friend，so he didnt even notice our car，when he finally noticed us after my husband was leaving to check in first， he knocked our car heavily，and said this is not parking area，i said ok，just a second，he is checking in，the security was rolling his eyes and said it emphasisly again，asked me to move it and i dont even have driving license here. One minutes later ，my husband was back with room card，he checked and let us just parking right there！！ can not believe there are rude staff in this fancy hotel！ 这个酒店的保安无比地*****，我们车停在门口去checkin ，有一个印度保安当时在草丛里玩手机压根没看到我们，然后我老公刚离开座位，车引擎今年还开这，就听见有人猛敲我车窗，我吓一跳看见这个印度保安从草丛里跑出来手机不玩了，说这不是停车位，我说好的 等一分钟，他去checkin ，我们马上开走，他在那翻着白眼大声说这不是停车位！ 我说我没驾照，不然你来开。他一副高高在上的嘴脸，站在我车门口，然后等我老公出来拿着房卡，他一看是酒店的客人，就说把车摆正，等我们下车他赶紧跑远了。酒店平时都没有服务态度的培训吗，他都把自己当这酒店主人了

The white elevator is very unique to this elevator. Tho it was slow but I don’t mind bec it so chic with glass door. Very unique indeed! Love it though I wasn’t able to take pic. 😒 +++ white elevator, water refilling dispenser, very spacious room & bathroom +++ location was quite away from the main action but there are 2 bus stops nearby, komtar & chowrasta are 5-10mins walk +++ they provide dental kit, small soap, nice shampoo/conditioner & body wash, mugs, electric kettle, safe, ref, ac was functioning very well, room telephone, tv but i did not use it +++ free wifi was good —- reception is not very friendly except for 1 Indian guy who promptly answers whatsapp tho he mistaken me for a guy at first 😄, the chinese receptionist hardly smiles, indian lady seemed to not know anything when you ask about tourist spots (i think hotel people should equip themselves with some knowledge on tourism. I mean there should be basic orientation by management on this. Times had changed and you need to have these extra customer service, just suggesting). —- i was in the assumption that cleaning is daily but i was told every other day but i still need to remind them about it. Entire hotel can use some improvement in the cleaning — no closet inside the room, you just have to hang your stuff —- my view was a huge wall —- soundproofing is bad, very noisy when people close doors or children running around. You hear toilet flushing from nearby rooms —- it was raining when I arrive and nobody offered an umbrella except on the second day when the janitor heard me. That was appreciated very much. It also made me realize that umbrella is a weapon for solo travellers so that made the carrying a little easier —- towels smell mushy maybe bec of rainy season —- sometimes bathroom had some drainage smells —- food choices was a little limited in area unless you walk for like 5-10mins. Overall stay was still on the good side. I had way worst stays than this. I did enjoy my solo trip to Penang and would love to go back. I plan to stay next time near the street art areas where the actions are. I would still recommend le embassy to other travellers.

The location is great, walking distance to nearby mall & eateries. Room was spacious & decorated in luxurious style. Toilet was clean & equipped with bath tub which was a plus point for us. Love the breakfast spread that consisted of various nice food choices & the waitresses was very helpful especially to elderly. The only drawback was noise made by nearby hotel/ karaoke area at night. Overall, its worth the money i've paid.

Club benefits were decent and the host of the day was very friendly. Lounge was at full house during evening cocktails so do come early!
