Trabzon|1km from downtown
Pros The hotel is in a good location on a hill on a side street not far from the main shopping street and only 10/15 minutes walk from the main square. The rooms appear to have been newly renovated and have tasteful decor. The bed is comfy and the shower is hot and powerful. Breakfast was a fairly wide spread of Turkish cheese etc. With a lovely sea view from the top floor. The staff welcomed me when I arrived in a taxi and helped me with my bag. Check-in was very quick and efficient. The manager spoke English and was extremely helpful, he ordered me a taxi to the airport and helped me with my luggage. I chose this hotel because it was one of the cheapest hotels in the area and I do think it is very good value. Cons The rooms are quite small, especially the bathroom which becomes flooded every time you take a shower. The hotel was extremely busy, mostly with Arabic guests (I was the only European staying) and getting into a lift or trying to get some breakfast was a battle every day. I eventually gave up and went out and bought breakfast to avoid the stress. The walls are very thin meaning you could hear what was going on in every room around you, babies screaming, children running, shouting, arguments, knocking, doors slamming, toilets flushing. The windows didn't close properly and there was extremely loud traffic noise - cars and trucks driving fast up the hill, motorbikes revving past and horns beeping constantly. I'm not someone who is sensitive to noise but it was hard to sleep even with the windows closed. There were strong smells of cigarette smoke coming into my room, I think from the bathroom, so I closed the door but still suffered from headaches due to the smoke. I don't know if other hotels in Trabzon are any better - they could also be busy and if in a central location, could be noisy. If you stay here I recommend you bring some earplugs..
