I just came from five day business trip in Astana staying at the Ritz Carlton. Without a doubt my favorite meal was Breakfast on the third floor. The gracious staff - mostly bright college students with big smiles and wonderful personalities made each morning for this New Yorker suffering Jet lag - bright. The omelette prep was perfect and the buffet setup - had everything. It was high quality as to be expected at a Ritz. But what made each morning was to visit with these young men and women moving up in the world from Universities to aspirations and higher learning while they held second jobs at the hotel - extra special. So to all the staff in the breakfast hall - You are the best of Kazkahstan. I look forward to coming back soon and through blurry eyes seeing all the fresh smiling faces and continuing our talks about life and the future. Cheers.FromS$280

After staying for almost a month, the hot water is unstable, the hotel service is poor day by day, the toilet paper is not filled, the bed sheets are not changed when people are away, and the bath towels are sometimes not changed.FromS$127

Hotel good enough. The staff speaks good English and they are very helpful. There is also a gym! The room is big, tidy. Big bed, sofa, tv. There is also an iron and ironing board which is comfy for business stay. The only bad thing is the air-conditioning and heating system: it is normal set on 28 and you can't set it below 24. Still, itself came back to 28 sometimes. You have to open window to cool the room inside. The toilet very clean, with some free stuff like soap or shampoo. Big shower. Very nice. The breakfast: a little bit of cheese, some meat, eggs and pancakes. Some fruits and veggies. Also nuts and flakes. Let's say standard breakfast, but you can get bored after few days eating the same :) FromS$92

I have stayed at the Marriott Hotel in Nur-Sultan several times. The service was always of a high standard, the rooms comfortable, the food delicious; basically the Marriott hotel in Nur-Sultan was an ambassador hotel of the Marriott group. This time was different …. I arrived in Nur-Sultan off the overnight flight from Istanbul (where I had also been staying in a Marriott hotel) at 10 am. The not very friendly receptionist advised me that I would have to pay for early checkin. This is normal policy nowadays and I was pleased to pay this as I was tired, would have liked to get a couple of hours sleep, and had a full afternoon / evening of meetings ahead of me. I was advised that it would take 20 – 40 minutes to prepare the room. I queried the occupancy of the hotel and was told it was at 60%. 1 h 30 mins later I was handed my room key. Not a great start. In my bathroom the showerhead had the quaint action of showering the ceiling rather than me and the loo-paper dispenser fell off the wall. More mild irritations! In the evening I visited the once renowned restaurant on the 27th Floor. The food was indifferent and the first three wines I choose from the wine list I was told were not available. Day 2 My room was not made up, my laundry (although promised to be returned in 24 h) was not returned, the loo-paper ran out, the mini-bar was not re-filled (so no water), on visiting the spa I found some of the exercise machine malfunctioning. Oh dear! Day 3 After a firm word with the receptionist my room was finally cleaned but the sheets not changed. Day 4 My room was not cleaned… again! Well, I suppose the good news is that I am returning to the to the excellent Marriott hotel in Istanbul tomorrow. I sent my comments to the General Manager, but he did not have the courtesy to respond.FromS$102
