This is an extremely cosy place, but I would not dare describe it as luxurious. It is dated and simple, with the most basic amenities.
However, I liked it a lot. The best part about this ryokan is its owner, an elderly man. He truly puts his heart and soul into his establishment. He even suggested to give us a ride to the station, however the weather was nice and we decided to walk instead.
I'd like to highlight the breakfast: it was gorgeous, given the price. I'd even say it tasted better than a ¥3000 dinner I had at some local restaurant.
The whole experience felt like visiting your grandparents, who live in a village, during the summer.
Traditional hotel at the end of famous shopping street
They provided plubic bath(No onsen) for guest
Tatami room is nice , and Breakfast was not so bad.
Hotel is in good location to enjoy yoyr stay and workout to sightseeing Karuizawa nearby.
Location was close to the station. 10 walk but be had so much luggage to roll behind is so 15 minutes. Rooms were cosy. Small as most in Japan are but well heated as we went in fall during a cold day. Service was very pleasant. We were greeted well and shown to our rooms. We didn't get to see the service in action that much because we left early morning after 1 day.
The cabin was narrower than the picture, and the bathroom was outside, so grass bugs flew at night, which was uncomfortable for children to go around.
However, dinner and breakfast were buffet style, which was really healthy, and the taste was good, and the quantity was also foody.
It was in the mountains, so the cool wind and the sound of the water refreshed me in the evening.
It was the first night of my entire trip—and also the most expensive one. But it was absolutely worth it!
Lake Suwa was right in front of the hotel. If you take the train, it might be a bit of a walk, but since I drove, the location was perfect.
The hotel was incredibly spacious, and the onsen was lovely.
Dinner (a full course meal) was exceptional, and breakfast was just as impressive—absolutely delicious!
One thing I still wonder about: what were those insects outside the window at night?
They clung to the glass, and I was afraid they might get inside. Thankfully, the window seals were excellent, so none of them made it indoors. Only the outdoor bath had a few, which was understandable.
I truly hope I can go back again—with my mom next time!
The location is great and it is well maintained. I stayed in the 4 beds female dorm, it was spacious. The bed was big with a little desk at one side of the bed for organising personal items. Each bed has their own charging pod. There are some limitations though: the lift can't be used so suitcases are moved up via staircase. I have to go down to the 2nd floor for the bathroom and toilet. I am not sure how many people are sharing them but I never need to wait an they are clean.
Amazing family run ryokan just few minutes drive from Snow Monkey Park.
Booked a room with a private in-room onsen but it didn't make much sense as the bath was hot but there was no hot water in the shower. The room was spacious with comfortable beds and futon. Nice yukatas and socks were provided in the room.
Public baths in the ryokan are great (especially outdoor area), we tried both of them.
The kaiseki dinner and japanese breakfast are VERY delicious.
The staff and the owner are so nice and welcoming.
The free transfer to the Monkey Park is available at 9:45 am

The hotel staff were friendly and polite. Although I was a Chinese tourist alone, the Japanese were typically very friendly. Unfortunately, it was a Japanese holiday these days, and the nearby restaurants were closed. It got dark around 5 pm, and having to walk in the dark for 15 minutes to get to the restaurant and back was a little scary for a woman walking back alone in the dark 😰
Back to breakfast: The Japanese-style biscuit soup was indeed very delicious; everyone should try it!
Transportation: A private car took me back to the JR station.
Spa: The spa was very clean and the scenery was beautiful. After bathing, there were even comics to read – a truly authentic Japanese experience 👍🏻 I left my bath products behind, and the staff immediately retrieved them for me. It was truly a perfect hotel with exceptionally friendly and polite staff.
Everything about our stay was perfect. The place was very clean and well maintained, and the location was ideal for visiting the Snow Monkey Park. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, always ready to help. The meals were delicious and thoughtfully prepared, and the onsen was relaxing and beautifully kept. It was a wonderful experience overall, and I would love to come back again.
