Tbilisi is known for

Tbilisi’s Old town is the touristic area of the city. Narikala Fortress located on Sololaki ridge dominates the area. Old Town though has been renovated but the twisting old lanes can lead to many dilapidated buildings telling stories of a beautiful past with overgrown courtyards and carved wooden balconies. Some buildings in the area date back to the late 17thcentury and still have some of the Eurasian characters from those times. Visit the Kote abkhazis qucha, Freedom Square and the busy Meidan to get the feel of the Old Town.

Visit the Sioni Cathedral to learn about the StNino and the conversion of Georgia. St Nino is the most venerated saint of Georgia. Wander up the streets of Avlabari, located on the cliffs on Mtkvari east bank and enjoy the stellar views of the river. Nearby is the historic Metekhi Bridge which is known for forceful Islamic conversion of Georgians. Other prominent attractions are Parliament building - a soviet-era building, Bridge of Peace and Abanotubani – sulphur ancient bathhouses.

Tip: Enjoy cable car ride running from the south end of Rike Park to Narikala Fortress and from Vake Part to Turtle Lake.

Shopping in Tbilisi

Tbilisi has good options for shopping for various kinds of products such as gold jewellery, silver jewellery, precious stones, artefacts, paintings, antiques, carpets, etc. Old Town and Sololaki are full of unique shops selling all kinds of products. Explore the commercial hub of Medieval times in Old Town’s Sionis qucha, Shavtelis qucha and Erekle II qucha. Dry Bridge Market is known for shopping of antiques, jewellery, knick-knacks, and other miscellanea products. It is an open-air flea market and is best visited on weekends when it has a carnivalesque atmosphere. The main market is good for buying fruits and vegetables.

Tip: In the Dry Bridge Market ask for Nana to hear interesting local stories and getting local sweet tangerines.
