Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is well-connected to all parts of the main city by Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) trains, buses and taxis. By road, the airport is only about 30 minutes away from the city. On the MRT, it’s a 40-minute ride (approx.).
Dubai is a city with two airports – the first being the Dubai International Airport (DXB) and the second, Al Maktoum International Airport. Flights from Singapore to Dubai usually land at Dubai International Airport.
Singapore to Dubai flights can arrive at either Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 if you fly with Emirates and Qantas or Terminal 1 which is used at present by all other international airlines.
Direct flights to Dubai are currently offered by Emirates and Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Cheap flights from Singapore are often connecting flights and are known to be serviced by Qatar Airlines, Air India, Jet Airways and Tiger Airways.
Direct flights between Changi Airport and Dubai International Airport is approximately 7 hours long. Indirect flights between the two cities will be significantly longer and are known to take well over 10 hours.
November to March is said to be the best time of the year to visit the city because the days cool down and the nights are pleasant. The city also hosts the much-awaited Dubai Shopping Festival between December and February each year.
If you want to keep your trip low key and avoid heavy crowds, September to October is a good time to visit. However, it is recommended that you avoid the months of July and August, this is when the temperatures are at their most extreme and makes navigating the city impossible.
The connectivity in the city of Dubai is excellent and most areas connect to the airport by taxi, bus and Metro. For those looking to sunbathe or spend some time by the beach, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah are famous for their luxurious beaches. Those on business trips will find connectivity to the commercial areas of the city better if they stay in Tecom, Media City and Internet City. Al Karama, Deira and Bur Dubai host low-budget hotels while downtown Dubai hosts luxury hotels.
Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Ibn Battuta Mall host international, high-end and luxury stores. To buy gold and spices, visit the ancient Gold and Spice Souqs.
The beachfront area of Jumeirah hosts many cafes, chain restaurants and independent diners with global cuisine, as do Box Park and City Walk. A visit to Dubai is not complete without traditional Arabic food, to find these head to Al Karama, Al Fahidi or Bur Dubai.
A must see in Dubai is the Burj Khalifa’s observation deck, it is also recommended that you pay a visit to the neighbouring Opera House and get your shopping done at one of the world’s largest and most exclusive malls - Dubai Mall. The beachside area of Jumeirah is world famous for its seaside stretch of shops, eateries and cafés. Don’t forget to spend a weekend at Atlantis, the luxury resort and amusement park on The Palm, a manmade island.
Walking the paved streets of Al Bastakiya is a must-do and a meal at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding will help round up a great trip.
