Windsor Barra Hotel

What makes a 5 star hotel? Is it the bed, bathroom, the pool or food? It's the service from the hotel staff that makes you feel like you are staying with family. That is 5 star. In these times with Covid-19, quarantine stayed just under 21 days. These are the times when an outstanding hotel staff make all the different. Stronger recommend if you plan on staying in the Barra area using the Windsor Barra hotel. Regards, Richard Coyne

Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro

To start with the one obvious limit of the property, it is in Barra de Tijuca which is a modern, residential, somewhat ”American” part of Rio. Because of the location alone, I wouldn't have booked this hotel for the entirety of my stay, because in many ways, areas like Ipanema and Copacabana are a lot more interesting and buzzy. That said, this is really the only negative I would have about this hotel and for anyone who doesn't mind transportation, Uber is cheap and reliable in Rio, and it will cost about BRL 30-60 to get from the hotel to all the more ”iconic” parts of Rio depending on time (and therefore on traffic) and will take about 30 minutes off peak. The hotel itself is beautiful, almost resort like. It is fairly large, the building has a fairly strange shape with multiple wings, though this also seems to guarantee that all rooms will get a view of sorts (the hotel ideally overlooks the Ocean on one side and a beautiful and serene lagoon on the other side). Common parts include a nice and clean beach where the hotel offers loungers and umbrellas, a beautiful swimming pool with several areas (toilets and sunscreen provided), a spa, and several restaurants. I was staying in a Club ocean front room and it was great. The room decor is very nice, beautiful bathroom with separate bath and shower, very nice balcony with a coffee table and two chairs, nespresso coffee machine, bottled water, lovely local Granado toiletries. Rooms are quiet and bed comfortable. The lounge is very nice too with rooms to both sides, and services for breakfast and cocktail hour in the evening. I had breakfast in the main Tano restaurant which was excellent (multiple stations for omelette, tapioca, pancakes, green juice, etc plenty of fresh fruit, excellent pastries, etc), lunch at the Canto restaurant and by the pool (more limited version of the same menu) which was excellent. I also had dinner at Shiso, their Japanese restaurant and I'll admit that I was a little bit more disappointed there despite great review (food was ample but did not feel very authentic, was very salty, and the rice itself was not very good). Maybe I was there on an off day as reviews are, as I said, very positive in general. In addition to everything else, staff everywhere was excellent from managers pre-arrival to people I interacted with throughout the stay. All in all, in a sometimes hit and miss Rio hotel scene, and once one accepts the less traditional location, this is a really excellent hotel and one I'll return to with great pleasure. PS: very minor point: mini bar had no prices indicated and proved fairly expensive. Also note that there is a resort fee of BRL75/day which I did not think was very clear

The environment is good, close to the airport and Iguazu Falls, very convenient, the breakfast is very good, recommended! More importantly, I tried to delay the check-out, and they agreed very quickly. The environment is very good, with peacocks, etc.

Amazing hotel - perfect location on Ipanema beach, outstanding service, stunning pool area for sunsets & drinks. Bed quality is beautiful - I had an amazing nights sleep. While the front rooms with ocean view are bigger / better, then courtyard rooms are also good with great air conditioning, bathroom products, etc. 3rd stay here - will stay again!
JW Marriott Rio de Janeiro

Being an ambassador level with Marriott tells you I travel a lot. We stayed at the JW for five days and loved the location, right in the middle of Copacabana beach. The hotel does need a little updating but the staff and lounge more than made up for it. The one person who really made our trip was Thais Silva from guest relations. She was on top of everything, if something was not right, she made it right. Not only did she go above and beyond but she really cared. Thanks again for making our stay in Rio a truly memorable one.
Windsor Marapendi Hotel

Positive Great Location, you are relatively close to everything in walking distance. There is a pharmacy next door, as well as a bakery that has outstanding quality. The rooms are clean and spacious. One of the big pros for me is that there are no carpets, which is a big plus. It avoids any unpleasant smells. Negative Unfortunately, there are a lot more negative comments rather than positive ones. My family and I usually stay at the Grand Hyatt, but due to Covid-19, the hotel was temporarily closed. We were left with no other option but to give this hotel a try. I want to emphasize that this hotel has the potential to be a 4 or 5-star hotel if adjustments are made. Nonetheless, this hotel should be a 3 star. On the first day of arrival, we had wifi. However, on the 2 day of our stay, we no longer had wifi. We contacted the reception desk, and the girls in counter said they were having issues with their wifi due to their guest capacity?!?!?!?!?!?! really? This is a hotel that shouldn't even be an issue. We are in 2020 in 2020 even McDonalds has a reliable WIFI however, Windsor Marapendi did not. After a few days the ”Partial Wifi” was back up, I mean partial because the wifi was only available in the lobby. Just writing this review baffles me with their lack of proper and basic preparation and administration. Wifi was not available during our entire 9-day stay. We stayed on the 13th floor, and again I repeat no wifi in the room. I had to go down to the lobby so I could log in to my laptop to work. How inconvenient and above all this, not one apology and acknowledgment of their lack of proper planning from the hotel, and they didn't even move a finger to make matters right with this nuisance. There was a lack of responsibility and care from the hotel. All they would say is that they are working on it. The hotel charges for the use of an adapter. It's 50 real. Although it's nothing if you convert it to USD, all hotels allow you to borrow an adapter if needed. Especially one that has no wifi. (forgive me, but I can't get over this wifi issue) Breakfast is free, which is a nice thing (especially for a hotel with no wifi), but it's mediocre, your best off going out for breakfast you will have a much better experience. Blowdryer is obsolete. Suppose you want to dry your hair, good luck. Bring your blowdryer. In my case, I had to go out and buy one during my stay. The Reception desk crew needs a complete revamp on professionalism and Customer Service. If you are trying to be a high-end hotel ( Which this hotel is not), Customer service is everything you guest needs to feel welcomed and feel like their needs is cared for regardless of how little or big their needs are. Windsor Marapendi, you have great potential if the criticism is taken and executed for them not to happen again in the future with other guests. You need major improvement. You should be rated as a 2 star if that. Holiday inn is a 5 star compared to
Miramar by Windsor Copacabana

I arrived way too early for check in but reception was so welcoming, they offered me my welcome drink and accommodated my early check in request and got me a room a floor beneath the rooftop pool and bar! Which meant I was a flight of stairs away from the captivating views of Copacobana Beach and direct pool access. Made it up to my room right as the sun was peeking to rise and captured my first beautiful priceless moment in Rio de Janeiro! Everything about this hotel is premiere! The service is impeccable and any complaints or issues are dealt with right away. The concierge staff is always readily available for advise on things to do or places to eat depending on your tastes and acquiring bookings for activities for non Portuguese speakers like myself was effortless! Breakfasts are well attended to and their spread is admirably top notch! Rooftop bar staff are very efficient and courteous as well! Just top notch everything! This hotel is so worth the long review because of how everything is executed by them! They truly deserve their five star rating and there is no doubt in my mind that when I come back to Rio, I’ll definitely choose Miramar by Windsor Copacobana!
Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro

I spent four nights at this hotel, in a very nice area of Rio. Great facilities: magnificent rooms (standard), excellent bed and linen, very nice swimming pool (heated) with gorgeous views, pleasant common area, etc. The management, however, is not so good. Nothing serious or terrible, but not what you would expect from a Hilton hotel. E.g.: I was supposed to receive a free big bottle of water in my room, as part of the arrangement for my group; I did not received it and I was told that I should pay for it if I wanted it; in addition, I was asked, when checking our, to pay for 2 bottles! (when I ordered just one). I complained and no charge was made finally but it gave me a poor impression about the level of care for the details one would expect in a hotel of this category. Moreover, in a place what you cannot drink water from the tap safely, the management should provide with courtesy drinking water for every guest, as is usual in most places. About the food: very good in the restaurant, reasonably priced (but obviously not cheap). However, the breakfast was disappointing: little variety and quality in the fruit (in a place such as Brazil!!!), slow service for the eggs or tapioca you ordered, and little variety of bread and pastry, as well as other deficiencies (quality of cheese, ham or salami, etc.). A special positive mention for the cleaning personnel: very efficient and nice, always respected the requests I made about timing. Bravo.

If you want to experience a Rio with plush amenities and excellent service, this is the place for you ! There are so many thoughtful touches through the rooms and the property at large. I'm currently enjoying a full breakfast at the restaurant overlooking the terrace and I had to take a moment to highlight the cars and attention of Henrique & Fran . They welcomed me warmly, assisted me with translations and overall quite attentive, for me these things really matter. Highly recommend this charming coffees farm turned into a lush abode.
