Designing for Diagnostics: A Transdisciplinary Approach to

About Professor Alison Prendiville
Professor Alison Prendiville is internationally recognised for her systemic service design research. Her work is highly collaborative and relational, engaging with health and social care professionals as well as communities to integrate local knowledge with technology. This integration supports the development of new products, services, and policies aimed at addressing societal challenges such as Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Her research is transdisciplinary, situated within the broader field of social design, where her use of human-centred and place-based co-design methods connects practices, technologies, and policies to support healthcare transformation.
Currently, she is working on the DOSA (Diagnostics for a One Health User-Driven Solution to AMR) project in collaboration with partners from the UK and India. This initiative aims to develop a simple, community-based diagnostic test and service for urinary tract infections (UTIs) as part of the global agenda to combat AMR. Additionally, she is contributing to an NIHR-funded project focused on co-designing solutions to improve the blood culture pathway in three NHS hospitals. Her previous AMR-related work includes collaborating with nurses in the UK to reimagine nursing practices in response to AMR challenges in human health. In India, her research has extended to poultry dairy and aquaculture farming to better understand antibiotic use across supply chains.
Her research has been published in books and journals such as Designing for Health, Service Design and Service Thinking in Healthcare and Hospital Management, and Design Issues. She co-edited Designing for Service: Key Issues and New Directions with Dr. Daniela Sangiorgi, published by Bloomsbury in 2017. Alison is an adjunct professor at Milan Politecnico and a founder of UAL’s Public Collaboration Lab as well as the Service Futures Lab at LCC, UAL. Furthermore, she has co-edited The Bloomsbury Handbook of Service Design with Daniela Sangiorgi and Lara Penin, which is set to be published at the end of 2025.

The event will take place on the raised ground floor of Goodenough College UCL. and there is step-free access from the street via lift.
The closest underground stations are Russel Square, with Kings Cross Station being which is step-free.

It is definitely worth going. You can deeply feel the profound British culture and the importance Britain attaches to talents in various fields such as science, culture and art. When we went there, we queued for less than an hour to get in. The order arrangement in the venue was very reasonable and the Chinese translator was very useful.

I can attest to this: when visiting museums, you absolutely must purchase an guided tour. This morning I visited the British Museum. Luckily, I wisely chose the more expensive premium guided tour. Diana&#39;s explanation was lively, engaging, and undeniably professional. She not only told you what you saw but also provided an accessible explanation of the history behind the exhibits, allowing you to appreciate the characteristics of different cultures and even compare them with Chinese civilization. Diana, like a wise woman, not only shared the stories behind the exhibits but also showcased the unique humanistic appeal of Britain and the insights of someone who experienced it firsthand. Her profound knowledge and deep understanding of Beijing culture made us feel truly moved and reluctant to leave. My fellow travelers immediately decided to listen for an extra hour. Diana also shared the best camera angles, guaranteed to make your photos go viral on social media.
