She is herself, sui generis, made of many diverse elements into one of a kind.” The Dance Enthusiast Maureen Fleming is an American choreographer and performance artist whose surreal movement poetry ‘gives birth to a new vision of the body.’ (Ballet Tanz International, Germany) In this workshop, Fleming will share her ‘inside out’ training that enables you to access deep energetic states to move the body… a completely innovative and pioneering method. She will guide you to your deepest creative core, helping you discover and reveal the transcendent that resides in physical form. Her discipline imbues catharsis and alchemy into strength, flexibility, and balance. This deep, regenerative inner work allows for a more complete realization of your personal and creative vision and is geared for dancers, directors, actors, singers, butoh enthusiasts, therapists, and anyone interested in discovering their movement potential. YOU WILL LEARN: – FLEMING ELASTXX® - an original training method that initiates movement and voice from the innermost layer of muscles. Using a patented elastic exercise device, invented by Maureen Fleming, strength and flexibility are developed through the targeting of core muscles, in particular, the psoas. – THE 10 IMAGES - transformative imagery that helps you move past the physical form and create a useful alignment that can be applied to all movement and vocal training. – MOVEMENT MASSAGE – power points combined with effective stretching techniques to increase joint flexibility and unlock energy flow. – HOW TO HARNESS - the body’s movement potential in a daily exercise practice that supports and extends the life of all performance training as well as everyday movement. Fleming Elastxx® (US Patent 2020) When the Psoas muscle is strengthened with an awareness of the diaphragm pushing down, the vocal channel can open, creating sustainable and regenerative movement and sound. The sound can serve as a thermometer for the open internal channel in movement, allowing the practitioner to ‘hear’ the correct alignment. This process can lead to the development of an open and flexible human physical instrument in both sound and movement thus leading to the creation of sustainable movement and voice for performance and daily life. Images that ‘drive’ the muscle to ‘drive the gravity’ moving up and down the body can aid in this process. Many of the images used by Maureen Fleming can be found in the spiritual writings of the great mystics from Rumi to Yeats to Ohno and also in the great religions of the world. Maureen Fleming is renowned for her original form of visual theater. With the discipline of a classicist and the imagination of an iconoclast Fleming connects culture and art forms in an interdisciplinary celebration of femininity and the universality of the soul’s journey. A 2021 Guggenheim Fellow and Fulbright Scholar to Ireland, S.
