The Annual Master Drawings Symposium is back for its eighth year, showcasing the remarkable research of the winners and runners-up of the prestigious Ricciardi Prize. This year's symposium, taking place on January 30, 2024, at the elegant Villa Albertine in New York City, promises to be a captivating event for art enthusiasts and scholars alike. 

The program will feature enlightening talks by three distinguished authors who have been recognized with the Ricciardi Prize and published in the esteemed Master Drawings journal. Kicking off the presentations, the talented runners-up from 2023 and 2024 will share their fascinating findings. Luming Guan, a Diamonstein-Spielvogel Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum’s Department of Drawings and Prints, will offer fresh insights into an intriguing detail found in a sheet by Martin Schongauer, leading to a captivating iconographic study. Tom Nevile, the Head of Research at Day & Faber in London, will provide a comprehensive look into the little-studied master's working method by presenting a corpus of autograph drawings by seventeenth-century Flemish artist Robert van den Hoecke. 

The climax of the symposium will be a groundbreaking discussion led by Ian Hicks, the recipient of the 2024 Ricciardi Prize. Engaging in conversation with John Marciari, the head of drawings and prints at the Morgan Library, Hicks will delve into his meticulous reconsideration of a group of drawings by the renowned Giambattista Tiepolo. This thought-provoking research began during Hicks' term as the Moore Curatorial Fellow at the Morgan Library from 2020 to 2022.

The Drawing Foundation, in collaboration with Master Drawings New York 2024, is proud to organize this enlightening event.
