Life Drawing and Dance Notation with Lucy Bennett | Warlingham Church Hall

We are the Performance Artists Drawing Club. We get together regularly to work on our drawing skills, experiment, and platform the work of fellow artists. We believe in life drawing that rejects the idea of model as object and muse. We adapt to our models, our drawings are inspired by their ways of moving, dressing and performing: every model brings something new to the room and inspires our own work! We like our space to be relaxed, unpretentious and untutored. No one needs to ‘know how’ to draw to come to our sessions - take them as a chance to relax after a busy week and connect to drawing as play. This session will explore the drawing methods used by choreographer Lucy Bennett to map movement and understand the habits and techniques of dancers. Lucy will share her experience of developing these techniques and explain how they have facilitated her choreography work as a disabled practitioner. Then, supported by performances from dancers/models, we will combine life drawing with choreography sketching and movement mapping, trying out Lucy’s techniques to experiment with new ways of drawing from movement.
