These extraordinarily life-like works originate from the most important private collection of Roman sculptures, assembled in the 19th century by the prince and banker Alessandro Torlonia (1800-1884). Recently shown to great acclaim at the Louvre, in Paris, they will soon be presented to North American audiences for the very first time. Featuring remarkably beautiful bas-reliefs, mythical figures and captivating portraits – such as the celebrated Portrait of a Young Woman – this ensemble of exquisitely carved Roman characters awaits you at the Museum.

This exhibition focuses on the art of Anne Cahane (1924-2023), one of Montreal's most important contemporary sculptors. Cahane rose to prominence early in her career, becoming the first female sculptor to represent Canada at the Venice Biennale and receiving numerous important public art commissions throughout Canada. While she is best known for her sculptures, she also created many prints. This exhibition brings together two complete series of Cahane prints, along with some of her sculptures, showcasing the conceptual and formal connections between her two-dimensional and three-dimensional works.

Meryl McMaster's memories are interwoven with generational heritage, blood ties, geological eras, and ancestral lands. This is reflected in a series of outdoor photographs where the beauty of landscapes is intertwined with the often painful memories of colonial history. "Powerful as the Wind" showcases an artist's creative journey of confronting the passage of time and reconnecting with her ancestors.
