Minerva Cuevas: social ecology | Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand

Dec 5, 2025–Apr 12, 2026 (UTC-3)
Sao Paulo
Exhibitions
The 42 works exhibited in this exhibition collectively elucidate the concept of "social ecology," a concept coined by the anarchist philosopher Murray Bookchin (1921-2006), and from which the exhibition is named. Bookchin argued that the environmental crisis is inextricably linked to human hierarchies and inequalities; only societies based on free cooperation can restore ecological balance. This perspective permeates the work of Kouvas, who critiques neoliberalism and explores issues such as resource extraction, forced migration, and environmental damage caused by global industry.
André Taniki Yanomami: being an image | Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand

André Taniki Yanomami: being an image | Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand

Dec 5, 2025–Apr 5, 2026 (UTC-3)
Sao Paulo
Exhibitions
In the Yanomami worldview, the concept of "image" (utupë) refers not only to visible understanding but also to the intrinsic essence that constitutes the core of all life. The exhibition title, "Becoming an Image" (Yanomami: Në utupë), refers to the spiritual activities Taniki performed in shamanic rituals, transcending his mortal status and existing as an image, like a deity. Even today, Taniki continues to fulfill his shamanic duties in his community, mediating the relationship between ancestral spirits and non-shamanic Yanomami people. Similarly, although he no longer paints, his works still bear witness to his mediating power, transforming the invisible (the image of the deity) into the visible (the image of painting).
Claudia Alarcón & Silät: living by weaving | Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand

Claudia Alarcón & Silät: living by weaving | Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand

Sao Paulo
Exhibitions
Claudia Alarcón (born in La Punta, Argentina in 1989) and the Silät weaving collective were founded in 2023. This group comprises women from the Vichi tribe community in Salta Province, northern Argentina. They create textiles using ancient techniques of their community. This exhibition features approximately 30 works, some of which have never been shown before. These works, made from Chaguar fiber (a bromeliad native to the artists' homeland), recreate traditional patterns and techniques for making yica (a local specialty bag). For the Vichi people, weaving is an act deeply intertwined with memory, mythology, and place. Alarcón and the Silät collective have inherited and developed this knowledge, attempting to create exquisite works based on traditional patterns. By reasserting the role of women, the artists use textile production as a living language and cultural political manifesto to express their history and identity. This is Alarcón and Sillat's first solo exhibition in Brazil.

Mar 6–Jun 7, 2026 (UTC-3)
Sao Paulo
Exhibitions
This exhibition is the first panoramic solo exhibition of Peruvian artist Sandra Gamara Hirschi (born in Lima, Peru in 1972), bringing together approximately 80 works from the past 25 years. Since the late 1990s, Gamara's work has maintained a critical perspective on the system, as evidenced by her fictional museum, LiMac. Through the critical appropriation of paintings and sculptures, especially those from the colonial period, the artist questions the neutrality of artistic expression and uses "reproductions" as a response to established narratives. The exhibition's organization itself imitates and critiques the traditional chronology of Latin American museums. This exhibition is a collaboration with the Museum of Art, Lima (MALI).
