< ARMOURED DREAMER > TETSUYA NOGUCHI | The Hakone Open-Air Museum
Jul 19, 2025–Jan 12, 2026 (UTC+9)
Hakone
Exhibitions
The Hakone Open-Air Museum is delighted to present “Tetsuya Noguchi – ARMOURED DREAMER,” the ninth exhibition in a series showcasing new forms of contemporary creative expression.
Driven by a curiosity about civilized society and human nature, contemporary artist Tetsuya Noguchi explores the theme of “Armour and Man.”
Despite their old-fashioned appearance, his works are made of modern materials, such as resin and acrylic, and encapsulate the artist’s concepts of reality and diversity. The sculptures, with their deceptively realistic skin texture, strike an ironic note, drawing a contrast with the performative expressions often found in contemporary Japanese art, and stimulate the viewer’s imagination. Though the motif of his works is armour, the works portray a positive image of human beings across the past, present, and future.
Noguchi sees the armour, an icon in itself, as “the shell of a living creature,” and claims that “the shell-clad human being is not an inhabitant of another dimension or theatrical event, but simply a figure that responds to the times and the environment.”
The exhibition will be held in the Main Gallery, unchanged since the museum opened in 1969, and will feature approximately 75 two- and three-dimensional pieces, including several new works. In this open-air museum, where nature and art coexist in harmony, Noguchi’s expansive ideas and exquisite creations will come together to form an intellectual space that is welcoming to all.

Fujita Museum of Art Women Artists Exhibition | Sanno Art Museum
Sep 1, 2025–Jan 31, 2026 (UTC+9)
Osaka
Exhibitions
This exhibition brings together works by four female painters from the Sanno Museum of Art's collection. Even in 2025, the gender gap remains a major issue. Even more so than 100 years ago, when these women aspired to become artists, the art world was more male-dominated than it is today, making it extremely difficult for women to pursue a career as artists with high aspirations. Despite these circumstances, these women lived resilient and resilient lives, and their vibrant, passionate, and unique works are sure to inspire courage and energy in us living today. Please enjoy these works, which can only be found at the Sanno Museum of Art.
Shoji Kawamori is a creator who continues to captivate the world with his innovation and imagination. This spectacular exhibition traces the creative path of Kawamori, who is the theme project producer for the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. The venue will showcase everything from his masterpieces to his latest projects through valuable three-dimensional exhibits and setting materials. In particular, the impact that young Kawamori received at the 1970 Osaka Expo and the chain of creation that continues to 2025 will be recreated through dioramas and video productions.
Nagai Botanical Garden TeamLab | Osaka
Oct 1, 2025–Jan 31, 2026 (UTC+9)
Osaka
Celebration
teamLab's nighttime outdoor museum is permanently located at Nagai Botanical Gardens in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. Opened in 1974, the gardens capitalize on the gardens' rich natural beauty, offering visitors a series of interactive artworks that change in response to the garden's plants and birds, wind and rain, and the actions of people. The approximately 240,000 square meters of gardens also feature a large pond, where seasonal flowers and flocks of wild birds adorn the art space and become part of the artwork.
This permanent nighttime exhibition is a delight for both adults and children. It embodies teamLab's "Digital Nature" project, which aims to transform the natural state of nature into art using immaterial digital technology. The swirls of light depicted on the giant sculptures are both mysterious and beautiful.
Special Exhibition: The turbulent Keicho era | Osaka Castle Museum
Oct 16, 2025–Jan 8, 2026 (UTC+9)
Osaka
Exhibitions
In Japan, the era name was changed from Bunroku to Keicho in 1596. This was done in the hope of bringing peace to the world following the major earthquake that struck Kyoto and other areas in the same year. However, the wishes embedded in the change of era name were in vain, as a series of natural and man-made disasters followed, including the Battle of Sekigahara and the Siege of Osaka. This exhibition traces the turbulent course of the Keicho era up until the outbreak of the Siege of Osaka.
