The Grand Union Canal in England is part of the British canal system. Its main line starts in London and ends in Birmingham, stretching for 137 miles (220 km) with 166 locks. It has arms to places including Leicester, Slough, Aylesbury, Wendover and Northampton. The Grand Union Canal was also the original name for part of what is now part of the Leicester Line of the modern Grand Union: this latter is now generally referred to as the Old Grand Union Canal to avoid ambiguity. This is home to the annualGrand Union Canal Race. The 145-mile Grand Union Canal Race (GUCR) is a race that captures the imagination of ultrarunners who’ve witnessed it and it’s considered to be one of the classic ultras in England. Given it’s basically a flat run along a canal path, it doesn’t have mountains or dramatic scenery, but it creates a unique atmosphere that fosters a loyal following.

Biffy Clyro's "The Fuckin' Tour" concert at Birmingham's Barclaycard Arena (now Utilita Arena) on January 16, 2016, served as a pivotal stop on the Scottish rock band's UK-wide tour promoting their seventh album "Ellipsis." The nearly 2-hour performance featured tracks from the new album like "Wolves of Winter" and "Howl," alongside classics such as "Many of Horror" and "Bubbles." Off-Site Safety Management (OSSM) for the youth sector | Signing Tree Venue

Family Events
DCMS rate: £100 + VAT This fun and highly engaging two-day in-person course aims to help youth workers and/or managers responsible for practical youth work activities, off-site trips and visits, to make these experiences safer for young people, and the staff supporting them. This course will utilise a range of practical tasks and engaging workshops designed to highlight the risk issues you might encounter in a range of youth programmes, off-site activities and residential settings, this is more than the normal classroom-based training! Accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), the original course was designed in response to concerns about safety in off-site activities. Pharos has enhanced the standard syllabus to make it specific for the youth sector, including use of practical ‘hands-on’ risk assessments. It is far from a normal ‘health and safety’ training course and although the course covers the core H&S legislation, it explores how these can enable rather than block good quality youth work. The course brings the legislation to life by providing an opportunity for attendees to explore its application in practical, highly relevant situations. It aims to equip attendees with the ability to apply knowledge, understanding and problem solving skills in a range of contexts. The training fully complements the resources on the NYA Safeguarding and Risk Management Hub here . Appropriate for those working in a range of different situations where they are responsible for taking children/young people/adults out of their everyday environments. Delivered by NYA’s risk management partners, Pharos Response ; the crisis management experts who know only too well what happens when risks aren’t managed effectively. Lunch, refreshments and certificates included. Non-residential. What others have said "Definitely has increased my awareness of safety management, both on and off-site. Improved my confidence in writing, reviewing and signing off risk assessments and safety briefings" "Nice mix of practical activities and classroom learning. Really engaging and opened our eyes to good process and the law" “Even if you have been involved in youth work for years, you will definitely learn something new on this course” “Great training. The Pharos trainers were impressively knowledgeable and delivered well together” “I thought it was very good as very youth work focused with the right case studies that were relatable” -------------- This training is offered at a heavily subsidised, with funding provided by the DCMS. To help us understand your motivation for applying, we kindly ask that you complete an application form. Please note that this offer is only available to those based in England. If you are unable to attend the course, please inform NYA as soon as possible so that your place may be offered to another participant. Please note that a maximum of two applicants per organisation will be considered. Information Source: National Youth Agency | eventbrite
