Flower Carpet | Brussels

Every two years, the Grand Place in Brussels is covered with a carpet of begonias. This 70m x 24m carpet is created by approximately 120 volunteers using nearly one million flowers in less than four hours. This year's event aims to promote dialogue between Belgium and Japan to commemorate the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," the design was recreated by Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugiyama and his art collective "Keimon" using over 500,000 dahlias. Another important new feature is that the exchange will feature a second carpet for the first time, inspired by hops—a symbol of Belgian brewing tradition.

The 18th Bruges Beer Festival will be held on Saturday, September 12th and Sunday, September 13th, 2026 at the Bruges Conference Centre (BMCC) in Beursplein, Bruges. Organized by the BAB vzw Beer Association, the festival once again serves as a gathering place for international beer lovers. Approximately 60 breweries and breweries will showcase around 400 beers, from classics to exclusive craft brews, in a modern venue near the historic center of Bruges. Live music will also be provided on Saturday and Sunday.

This space brings together artworks, editions, books, and archival materials by Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers from the museum's collection in one place.Marcel Broodthaers (1924-1976) is one of the most important and enigmatic artists of the 20th century. He was active as an artist for barely twelve years, but in that short time he created a rich and diverse oeuvre consisting of paintings, sculptures, installations, (artists') books, slide projections and films. His oeuvre is like a giant puzzle, in which you can constantly discover new connections.
