Rotterdam Chinese New Year Event | Rotterdam
Celebration
The Year of the Horse is here, and it's time to celebrate! The 2026 Chinese New Year celebrations will be held from February 17th to March 3rd. Every year, West Cruiscarde kicks off the Chinese New Year with a grand celebration, featuring flag-raising ceremonies, exquisite decorations, artistic performances, and more. On February 28th, a grand street celebration will take place in West Cruiscarde Street and its surrounding area, offering a variety of exciting activities suitable for all ages. From 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the streets will be closed to vehicles, and various small stages will host a series of performances. Don't miss the traditional "Awaken the Lion" ceremony, where the lion will be awakened; in addition, there will be stilt walking performances, musical performances, dragon dances, children's kung fu workshops, and much more – a truly spectacular event. Four trams parked on the street also offer a variety of entertainment for visitors of all ages. On March 1st, Deli Square and Phoenix Square are must-see destinations. From 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., there's a vibrant atmosphere, including an Asian street food market, karaoke rooms, Wing Chun workshops, and Chinese and Korean calligraphy workshops. On Sunday evening, March 1st, you can enjoy a spectacular fireworks display at the South Shore Pier. The pier in front of the New York Hotel is a great spot to watch this amazing show. The performance is completely free and will be a perfect ending to the Lunar New Year celebrations in Kattendrecht.
