Join Hazlehurst Studio in Cheshire for a captivating and interactive in-person workshop on relief printing techniques. Led by the talented artist Cathy Rounthwaite, this workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of relief printing. Relief printing encompasses various printmaking techniques where the printing surface is selectively cut away, leaving the image raised on the surface. Techniques such as woodcut, linoleum cut, letterpress, and rubber or metal stamping fall under relief printing.
In this workshop series, we will primarily focus on linoleum cutting, also known as lino. With a ticket price of £20 per session, participants are encouraged to bring their own designs. However, source material for inspiration will be provided if needed. During Week 2, you will delve deeper into the art of lino cutting. Completion of Week 1 or prior lino cutting experience is required for this session. You will have the opportunity to design and produce a multi-colored print using traditional lino. This process involves carving your design into two blocks and learning how to align and print from them using a press. You will also create artist's proofs and have the option to produce a short edition of your work.
All necessary materials, including paper and equipment, are included in the workshop cost. Looking ahead, Week 3 will further refine your skills and allow you to produce a multi-block relief print. Booking for Week 3 is essential and not included in the price for Week 1 or 2. Expand your artistic horizons and join us for this enlightening relief printing workshop.
