· A valid passport is required.
· If your passport and International Driving Permit (IDP) are from different countries, also bring your residence permit or the driver’s license from the country that issued your IDP.
Driving Licence Requirements
· The main driver and any additional drivers must present their original driving license. Photos, electronic versions, temporary, learner’s, or regionally restricted licenses are not accepted.
· All drivers must have held their license for at least 12 months. If your new license does not show the issue date, bring your old license to prove driving experience.
· Driver age must be 20-80 years old. Young drivers may face a surcharge. Taxes and fees should be paid online or at the branch.
· Check with your rental branch for age requirements and extra driver charges.
Accepted Driver’s Licenses (choose one)
· Japanese driving license: Issued by the Japanese government.
· Original driving license + International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention):
· Original full, valid license from the main driver’s country.
· International Driving Permit valid for 1 year, issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention. Licenses issued under other conventions (such as the 1968 Vienna Convention) are not accepted.
Note: Japanese law does not support electronic IDPs.
Credit Card Requirements
· The credit card must be in the main driver’s name.
· The card must have a chip.
· Only physical international credit cards are accepted; debit, virtual, electronic, and cashback cards are not accepted.
