This was my first time renting a car in Okinawa, and communicating in Chinese was no problem at all. The car's navigation system can be switched to Chinese, although I didn't use it. However, connecting to the audio system via Bluetooth and using Google Maps would be much simpler. The car is spacious enough for a family of three plus two 28-inch suitcases. I recommend purchasing full insurance if you plan to rent a car, as no one wants an accident while traveling. Although the car is a bit underpowered, it's more than enough for driving in Okinawa, as everyone is quite law-abiding. Japan's road planning is also excellent. It just takes a little getting used to at first, but you'll get used to it much better by the second day. I highly recommend driving in Okinawa; it's the best option for your itinerary.
