Built by Germany's Meyer Werft shipyard at a cost of approximately USD 1.25 billion, the ship was delivered in April 2019 and made her maiden voyage from Singapore in May of the same year, becoming the first Quantum-class cruise ship deployed in the Asian market. As a large cruise ship home-ported in Hong Kong, Spectrum of the Seas is ideal for the following types of travellers:

Families: The ship features kids' and teens' clubs, family staterooms, and a wide range of parent-child activities (surf simulator, skydiving simulator, swimming pools, etc.), making it well suited for families travelling with children.
Couples & Honeymooners: Balcony staterooms and suites offer private balconies and exclusive perks, complemented by multiple specialty restaurants and a spa — perfect for a romantic getaway.
Senior Travellers: The ship is fully accessible, and certain itineraries offer "cruise to nowhere" sailings (no visa required) with a relaxed pace, ideal for seniors with limited mobility or those who prefer not to make frequent port changes.
First-Time Cruisers: As a large, modern vessel with extensive facilities, comprehensive Chinese-language services, and a diverse range of itineraries, it is an excellent choice for those experiencing a cruise for the first time.

Spectrum of the Seas is equipped with a variety of exclusive onboard attractions:

North Star: A 360-degree panoramic observation capsule located at the stern, which lifts guests approximately 90 metres above sea level for breathtaking views of the ocean and harbour.
FlowRider: A surf simulator on the aft deck offering two different difficulty levels of water flow for a thrilling riding experience.
RipCord by iFLY: A skydiving simulator that uses wind tunnel technology to recreate the sensation of freefall.
Rock Wall: A rock-climbing facility on the aft deck, generally open to guests free of charge.
SeaPlex: A multi-purpose indoor venue where guests can enjoy bumper cars, basketball, and more; it transforms into an entertainment space in the evening.
Swimming Pools & Water Park: Multiple swimming pools and water slides are available throughout the ship.

Spectrum of the Seas typically boards passengers between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, with departure at 4:00 PM. Travellers are advised to arrive at the cruise terminal between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to allow sufficient time for check-in procedures.

Boarding Process:

  1. Arrive at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal
  2. Luggage check-in (large luggage handled by terminal staff; carry-on luggage kept with you)
  3. Security screening (similar to airport security)
  4. Check-in procedures (present passport/ID card, boarding pass, etc.)
  5. Embarkation photo (optional)
  6. Board the ship

Getting to Kai Tak Cruise Terminal from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)

By Taxi: The most convenient option. The journey takes approximately 35–45 minute. Taxis are available at the airport's Ground Transportation Centre.
By Airport Bus (Route A29): Take Citybus Route A29 from the airport to Kowloon City, then transfer to a taxi or bus (e.g. KMB 5R) to the terminal. Total journey time is approximately 80–100 minutes. This is a more budget-friendly option.
By Airport Express + MTR/Taxi: Take the Airport Express to Kowloon Station (approx. 30 minutes), then take a taxi from Kowloon Station to the terminal (approx. 15–20 minutes, HK$60–80). Alternatively, transfer to the MTR at Kowloon Station and ride to Kai Tak Station, then take a short taxi ride to the terminal.

Tip: Allow at least 2–2.5 hours of travel time from the airport to the terminal, accounting for check-in and security procedures, especially during peak travel periods.

Japan 9 nights Hong Kong Japan ports (Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, etc.) From SGD 1,400 >>> Book Now!

The Japan route is one of the most popular itineraries for Spectrum of the Seas. In the second half of 2026, the ship will primarily call at ports including Okinawa (Naha) and Ishigaki Island. The 4-night itinerary typically includes 1 sea day and 1 day in Okinawa, while 5-night and longer sailings may add Ishigaki Island or other Japanese ports.

The Okinawa route is ideal for travellers seeking a short getaway — the sailings are brief and the fares are relatively affordable, with inside cabins starting from approximately SGD 460. Ishigaki Island is renowned for its beautiful beaches and coral reefs, making it a perfect destination for snorkelling and water sports enthusiasts.

Spectrum of the Seas' South Korea routes primarily call at Busan and Seogwipo (Jeju Island). However, South Korea itineraries rarely operate as standalone sailings — most are combined with Japanese cities to form longer voyages of 9 nights or more. Common combinations include: Hong Kong – Kagoshima – Nagasaki – Fukuoka – Busan – Hong Kong, and Hong Kong – Busan – Seogwipo – Yatsushiro – Fukuoka – Nagasaki – Kagoshima – Hong Kong.

These longer multi-destination itineraries are priced at a premium, with inside cabins from approximately SGD 1,588 and balcony cabins from approximately SGD 1,901. They are well suited to travellers with ample time who wish to explore multiple countries in a single trip.

The Vietnam route is a popular choice for 2026. The 4-night itinerary typically calls at Da Nang and Hue. Da Nang is famous for My Khe Beach, the ancient town of Hoi An, and Ba Na Hills, while Hue — Vietnam's former imperial capital — boasts historical landmarks such as the Imperial Citadel and Thien Mu Pagoda.

Balcony cabins on the Vietnam route start from approximately SGD 521. This itinerary is ideal for travellers who enjoy culture, history, and the charm of Southeast Asia.

Note: The Vietnam itinerary may require visa arrangements. Travellers are advised to confirm destination visa requirements before departure.

The Taiwan route uses Keelung Harbour as its primary port of call. However, there is currently no direct sailing to Keelung alone — the itinerary is in fact a combined Okinawa + Keelung 5-night voyage, typically including 1 day in Okinawa and 1 day in Keelung. Passengers can disembark at Keelung and visit attractions such as the Keelung Inner Harbour, Miaokou Night Market, and Heping Island Geopark.

The Okinawa + Keelung route is perfect for travellers who want to experience two destinations in one trip, and it is also relatively good value, with fares starting from approximately SGD 714.

Inside cabins are the most economical option on Spectrum of the Seas, ideal for budget-conscious travellers or those who plan to spend most of their time enjoying the ship's public areas.

Key Information:

Virtual Balcony: Some inside cabins feature a "Virtual Balcony" — a high-definition screen that streams real-time views of the ocean outside, compensating for the lack of a window. This is an exclusive design feature of Royal Caribbean's Quantum-class ships.
Amenities: Double bed (convertible to two single beds), wardrobe, dressing table, TV, bathroom (shower).

Pros: Lowest price; completely dark environment promotes better sleep; some rooms feature a virtual balcony; well suited to travellers who spend most of their time in public areas or on shore excursions.

Cons: No natural light; may feel confined; smaller space can feel cramped when occupied by multiple guests.

The biggest difference between an ocean-view cabin and an inside cabin is the window, which provides natural light and sea views.

Key Information:

Window: Features a large window, but it cannot be opened.
Amenities: Same as inside cabins, but the space is typically slightly larger.

Pros: Natural light makes the room feel more spacious; you can enjoy sea views at any time; more affordable than a balcony cabin.

Cons: The window cannot be opened, so you cannot feel the sea breeze; some ocean-view cabins may have partially obstructed views due to lifeboats.

Is it worth the upgrade? If you're on a tight budget but want natural light, an ocean-view cabin is a good choice. However, if the price difference between an ocean-view and a balcony cabin is small, it is recommended to go straight for the balcony — the experience of a private terrace far outweighs a fixed window.

Balcony cabins are the most popular cabin type on Spectrum of the Seas. They feature a private balcony where guests can step outside at any time to enjoy the ocean views and feel the sea breeze.

Key Information:

Balcony: The private balcony is furnished with seating for enjoying sea views. Some balcony cabins feature connecting doors, making them ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together.
Amenities: Double bed, wardrobe, dressing table, TV, bathroom (shower), balcony furniture.

Pros: Private balcony for enjoying sea views and the sea breeze at any time; perfect for having breakfast or a drink on the balcony; better sense of space.

Cons: More expensive than inside and ocean-view cabins; some lower-deck balconies may have reduced privacy due to overhang from the deck above.

TRIP.com offers several promotions for Spectrum of the Seas:

  1. 3rd & 4th Guest Free Fare Offer: Currently, guests booking selected sailings through Trip.com can enjoy discounts of up to free fares for the 3rd and 4th guests in a cabin. Bookings made between 1–31 August 2026 are eligible. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
  2. Early Bird Offer: Interested travellers are advised to monitor the platform for information. Booking early may unlock additional discounts.

Early Bird Discount

Royal Caribbean officially runs an "Early Bird Savings" promotion, offering discounts for advance bookings. Some itineraries also feature "3rd/4th Guest Half Price" or "3rd/4th Guest Free" family offers. The actual discount varies depending on the itinerary, cabin type, and booking timing — Royal Caribbean does not publish a fixed discount percentage. Early booking is recommended to secure the best fares and cabin availability.

Senior Discount

Royal Caribbean's terms and conditions mention that categories such as "seniors, residents, and military personnel" may be eligible for additional discounts, which can be combined with other promotions. However, as of August 2026, Royal Caribbean has not announced a fixed senior discount for Hong Kong departure sailings (e.g. a specific age threshold or percentage). Senior travellers are advised to contact Royal Caribbean customer service directly or enquire through a travel agent for the latest offers.

Child Discount

3rd/4th Guest Free Fare: On selected sailings, the 3rd and 4th guests in a family cabin can enjoy free or half-price fares, with savings of up to ~SGD 342 (converted from HK$2,100).
Infants (typically under 2 years old): Royal Caribbean occasionally runs limited-time "Kids Sail Free" promotions on select sailings, but this is not a standard policy and is subject to individual sailing terms. Additionally, some itineraries impose a minimum age requirement for infants (typically 6 or 12 months at the time of departure), with stricter limits on longer voyages. Even if the infant sails free, port fees and taxes still apply.
Children aged 2–12: If travelling as the 3rd or 4th guest in a shared cabin, they are eligible for the free or half-price fare mentioned above. If travelling as the 1st or 2nd guest (i.e. at the adult fare), no additional child discount is typically available.

Season Months Price Trend Notes
Low Season Jan–Mar, Sep–Nov Lowest Cooler weather or typhoon season, but the most affordable fares
Shoulder Season Apr–May, Dec Moderate Pleasant weather, moderate pricing
Peak Season Jun–Aug, Lunar New Year Highest Summer holidays and festive periods command the highest fares

Luggage Check-in: Large luggage must be checked in at the terminal and will be delivered directly to your cabin by terminal staff. It is recommended to keep valuables, medications, travel documents, and essentials in your carry-on luggage.

  2. After receiving the disembarkation notice, proceed to the designated waiting area
