Opened in 1965, the museum aims to preserve the townships of the grass houses completely, introducing the harsh living conditions faced by tenant farmers in the 19th century. The old Graham's house, the village blacksmith's shop, the weaver's house, also has paintings and historical archives, including Flora Macdonald, the spinning maid for Prince Charlie, smuggling him to safe places.
