The history of Jerash is a long and detailed one that is best discovered whilst exploring the ruins and museums of the city itself. The city was conquered by General Pompey in 64 BC when it was named Gerasa. Gerasa grew in wealth and later became a colony in the third century. Due to an earthquake and a number of crusades leading up to the 12th Century, the city’s ancient sites were not discovered again until the end of the 19th century.

Your Tour Manager will pick you up from your Hotel in Amman to start your full City Tour in Amman, Jordan. Start your Amman City sightseeing with a visit to the King Abdulla Mosque which was completed in 1989 as a memorial by the late King Hussein to his grandfather. The unmistakable blue-domed Mosque can house up to 7000 worshippers inside. This is the only Mosque in Amman that openly welcomes non-Muslim visitors. Then pay a visit to the Amman Citadel located 132 meters above the level of the City Centre. South of the castle we can still see the ruins of Hercules temple. Also there is Umayyad palace. The adventure continues then with exploring the Roman Amphitheater which is considered one of the largest in the Middle East. Its construction dates back to the beginning of the second Century AD. Then take a walk in Amman’s downtown markets and City center before heading to the Archaeological Museum and Darat al Fnoun which aims to provide a platform for the visual arts from the Arab World. Back to your Hotel in Amman.Duration is about 8 Hours.

The Hashemite Plaza is a plaza spread over 20,000 sq and one of the most popular spots in Amman. Located on Al-Hashemi Street, it has pretty foundations, lovely gardens, and seating facilities across the open area. With eateries, restaurants, and cafes a visit to the Hashemite Plaza is a pleasant way to spend an eveningNamed after the Jordanian Royal family, the eastern end of the plaza is one of the best places to take a stroll and enjoy the surrounding views. Also, the Amman Book Festival is conducted here each year. The Hashemite Plaza is surrounded by a couple of landmark Roman ruins. The Roman Theatre looks splendid with its 6000 seats looming on the southern side of the Hashemite Plaza. On the eastern side is Odeon, the smaller theatre. A short distance afar is Nymphaeum, the Roman public fountain. Besides, the Citadel Hill stands tall above the Hashemite Plaza and offers some great bird-eye views of it from its top.

Women must wear gowns to cover their hair in order to go in and visit. There is a dressing room specially designed for women to change into gowns. The gowns are free to borrow. Photographs can be taken outdoors, but not indoors. Five prayers a day and six hours of sunrise are displayed on the electronic clock on the wall. About half an hour in advance, the city's loudspeakers remind Muslims that they are ready to pray.

The Museum of Jordanian Heritage at the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology represents a vital and important unit of Yarmouk University. It elucidates through archaeological artifacts the story of man, his material culture, and his relationship with the surrounding social and geographical environment. The Museum of Jordanian Heritage was opened in 1988 in cooperation with the German Government. The museum and its divisions are designed in a way that reflects the variety and interrelations between the academic disciplines at the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropolgy; it recounts the story and history of mankind in Jordan throughout the main stages of development in a systematic way that serves the academic disciplines at the faculty and suits the needs and interests of both normal visitors and specialists at the same time. The Museum of Jordanian Heritage consists of the following parts: the first floor, the rural house, the second floor, the temporary exhibit hall, the external courtyard, and the numismatics hall. The first floor contains the main gallery of the museum, which consists of four halls. The first one deals with Jordan’s prehistory and includes exhibits on hunters and gatherers, agricultural evolution, and village farming communities. The second hall depicts Jordan’s early history through exhibits on the emergence of city-states, territorial states, and early pastoralists and Bedouins. The third hall presents Jordan during the classical period and puts special emphasis on the local population during the Nabataean, Roman, and Byzantine Periods. The fourth hall highlights Jordan as part of the Islamic World and includes reconstructions of some traditional crafts.
