Shuanglinzhen

Shuanglin Town has a long history and is one of the famous ancient towns in Jiangnan Water Town. According to the excavation and research of the nearby Hongcheng and Huacheng ancient cultural sites, ancestors lived here as early as three or four thousand years ago; in the Han and Tang Dynasties, it became a village, named Donglin; in the Southern Song Dynasty, the merchants from the north moved south with the Song Dynasty. They live here, so it is also called Shanglin. In the third year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty (1405), it merged with Xilin Village in Xierli and changed its name to Shuanglin Town, which has been in use until now. Now it belongs to Nanxun District, Huzhou City. Rooted in the water environment, the ancient town of Shuanglin is a kind of human gathering place and economic network space between the countryside and the city. Although many renovations have been carried out in the ancient town area in the previous urban construction, the old town site has not changed, and the area still retains the unique water network system, street and lane pattern and traditional architectural style of Jiangnan water towns. The East and West Rivers passing through the town, Mixingdai, Gangbeidai, Xidangdai, Baqiaodai and Carpenter’s Dai built along the river, Youche Lane, Caiyuan Lane, Jiusi Lane and Yonge Street beside the river street. Pingli, Tianchengli, Lufuqian and other ancient alley dwellings constitute the basic framework of the space of the ancient town area, and still fully reflect the environmental characteristics of "the unity of nature and man" in the ancient town of Jiangnan water town, exuding the original flavor of life and Various historical and cultural information.
