FAQ

When can I book UK train tickets?

Tickets can be booked up to 60 days in advance.

How do I cancel a UK train ticket and request a refund?

Advance tickets are usually the cheapest, but they are non-refundable. Off-peak and Anytime tickets are refundable. A service fee will be charged for each refund (up to £10 per ticket). You can request a refund for an Off-peak or Anytime ticket within 28 days of the ticket's expiry date. To request a refund, please follow the steps below:

1. Open the Trip.com app and go to "Account" > "All Bookings"

2. Select the ticket that you want to refund

3. Tap the "Refund" button on the booking details page

If you have already printed out the ticket at the station and would like to request a refund, please send your ticket and ticket reference number to the following address:

How do I change my UK train ticket?

About Advance tickets:

- Changes to the travel time or date must be made before the first train departure as shown on the ticket. Otherwise, the ticket cannot be changed and you will have to book another ticket. You will be asked to present your ticket and booking confirmation when you make changes.

- The place of departure, destination, train company, and route shown on the ticket must remain unchanged.

- You have to pay the price difference between the original ticket and the new ticket, if any. In addition, a service fee of up to £10 per person per ticket will be charged for every change. If the new ticket is cheaper than the original one, the difference will not be refunded.

- If you wish to change your ticket, please contact Trip.com customer support. As for Off-peak and Anytime tickets, please refund the original ticket and make a new booking. Please note that a service fee of up to £10 per person per ticket will be charged. If you have booked split tickets, please confirm which policies apply to which tickets.

What are the child ticket policies?

Children 5–15 years old can get a ticket discount. Up to 2 children under the age of 5 can travel for free when accompanied by a paying adult.

How do I select a seat?

Unless otherwise specified, you can choose not to reserve a seat. Most UK train operators will ensure that every passenger has a seat even if they have not reserved one. However, if there is no seat available, you may have to stand for a part of your journey. You can reserve a seat at no additional charge at any National Rail ticket office. Simply show your ticket at the ticket office before departure, and the staff member will help you to reserve a seat.

Can I request a refund if my train is cancelled?

If your train is cancelled, you can request a full refund. Refunds for cancelled trains must be subjected to the evaluation of the train operator. Please contact Trip.com customer support to request a refund.

Can I request compensation if my UK train is delayed?

If your train is delayed and you decide to travel anyway, you may be entitled to compensation. The amount of compensation you can claim depends on the rail operator you travel with. Every rail operator has their own compensation standards that are outlined in their passenger's charter.

Under the following circumstances, you may not be eligible for compensation:

- The disruption has been made known in advance

- Emergency schedule is running

- The reason for the delay is beyond the control of the rail operator

What are split tickets? Do I need to change the train or go to another platform?

1. What are split tickets?

Let's say you wish to travel from Station A to Station C. With split tickets, you will buy two separate tickets (one for the journey from Station A to Station B and another for the journey from Station B to Station C). This eliminates the need for transfers and helps you save money in the process. Please note that with split tickets, the train will stop at every station along the journey.

2. How do I use split tickets?

The only difference between split tickets and ordinary tickets is the price. With split tickets, you will hold multiple tickets but can travel on the same train and sit in the same seat.
